Honoring the parents

Tuhuf al Uqool

وبر الوالدين، وإن كانا مشركين فلا تطعهما

وصاحبهما في الدنيا معروفا لان الله يقول: " اشكر لي ولوالديك إلي المصير * وإن جاهداك على أن تشرك بي ما ليس لك به علم فلا تطعهما

 

[Imam al Redha(as) said]"And honor the parents, and if they are polytheists then do not obey them and accompany/socialize with them in the world amicable as indeed Allah(swt) says (in al Qur'an 31: 14-15): Give thanks to Me first and then to your parents, to Me all things proceed. If they try to force you to consider things equal to Me, which you cannot justify, do not obey them."
