  5. @Anonymous: Assalamu alaikum,

Sorry for late response, been very busy. I'm a bit pressed for time right now, but i'll explain shortly. Seems like many brothers are confused about this issue.

  6. @Anonymous: Regarding it being a sin to wear jeans (because they extend below ankles), it should be noted that many of the ahadith on this topic are speaking about izars, qamees etc (Arabic dresses). Yes, some of the ahadith are making general statements, and Shaikh Kulaini has also given a general fatwa as is evident from his titling of the chapter "Pulling up the clothes", so he didn't limit the ahadith to specific clothes. However, overall the issue is a bit unclear as it is possible that the ahadith that speak specifically about not letting the izar, qamees etc go beyond the ankles are qualifying the ahadith which are giving general orders about pulling up the clothes. So all in all, this is an ambiguous issue, and it is best to do tawaqquf/ihtiyat (precaution) in this matter. That means, one should not issue a definitive opinion on this issue and as precaution one may wear the lower garment above the ankles, but at the same time not condemn one who doesn't do so (and of course, neither make fun of those who do decide to wear their trousers above the ankles, as being some sort of wahabi thing)

Another point to note is that we have ahadith which tell us to avoid wearing clothes which attract publicity, and the best clothes being the ones which are customary in one's era. And in our case, we know that jeans, trousers etc (i.e. clothes which generally do extent below ankles) are the norm these days. As per hadith, if we come across ahadith which seem contradictory, then we are allowed to act on any of them which we find easy and with the niyyah (intention) of obeying the Imam. So in this scenario, where we have ahadith telling us to pull up our clothes, and other ahadith telling us to wear the clothes which are common in our time, so one may therefore take the easy route (as recommended in ahadith) and wear jeans, trousers etc with the niyyah of following the ahadith which tell us to wear clothes which are the norm.

Overall, the point of this post was to highlight that the instruction about pulling up the clothes above ankles is established from shia ahadith as well and it's not a "wahabi" thing, so one must refrain from mocking this practice as mocking sunnah/ahadith is a very grave sin.

    Wassalam
