Status of the one who doesn't know the Imam of his time.

Kamal ad din wa tamam an ni'ma

Told us my (Shaikh Sadooq) father (ra) from him said: Told us Sa'd b. Abdullah, from Muhammad b. Isa, from Ismail b. Mahran, from Muhammad b. Saeed, from Aban b. Tughlub who said: I said to Abi Abdullah (as): "Who recognizes the Imams (as) but doesn't recognize the Imam who is in his period/era, is he a momin (believer)?" (Imam(as)) said: "No" I said: "Is he a muslim?" (Imam(as)) said: "Yes". Compiler of this book (ra) said: The Islam is admission of shahadatain, that is by which is secured the blood and the wealth, and the reward is upon Imaan. And Propeht(PBUH) said: "Who testified there is no God but Allah (swt), and Muhammad (PBUH) is messenger of Allah (swt), so certainly his wealth and his blood is secured except that people are owed, and his account/reckoning is upon Allah (swt).
