"Logic" and "common sense" in Islamic laws

Kafi

Muhammd b.Yahya, from Ahmad b.Muhammad, from al Washa', from Muthnal Hanaat, from Abi Baseer said: (I) said to Abi Abdullah(as) "Things (religious questions) are referred upon us (which) we do not recognize (find) in book of Allah (swt) or sunnah so we look/speculate into it (for answer). (Imam(as)) said "No, if you're right you'll get no reward, and if you made mistake then you lied upon Allah (swt)."

  1. Salam,

When you translated that into English, you totally corrupted the Hadeeth? nowhere in the Arabic hadeeth does it say (logic or common sense) therefore stop inserting your own understanding please and stop misguiding believers, you will be asked upon your actions on the day of Judgement, better ask an Arab or someone to translate the scope of the hadeeth!

  3. @Anonymous: Wasalam,

No, I didn't corrupt the hadith. Shaikh Kulaini himself placed this hadith in the section of باب البدع والرأي والمقائيس bidah, ra'y and qiyas, so the hadith is talking about people who create bidah by trying to resolve issues using qiyas(deductive analogy) and ra'y(independent reasoning) by relying on their logic and common sense like the sunnis. BTW, this hadith has been graded حسن hasan by Majlisi and صحيح Sahih by Bahboodi.

And it is BASIC knowledge that modern arabic is different from classical arabic that's why arabs are not able to even read their own ahadith books. Therefore it isn't possible for me to "get an arab to do it" because they have no clue about our ahadith. BTW, Shaikh Kulaini (compiler of Kafi) wasn't an arab either and the teachers of arabic in qum hawza themselves are persians. If you worship the arabs then it's your choice but don't tell others to do so. And if you yourself are an arab and can't understand ahadith then it's your problem.

Secondly knowledge of religion is gained through ahadith not 'shaikhs' who either don't have knowledge of ahadith or just ignore it. Read the llinks below for details.
